things

an assortment of specific things i use

keyboard — georgi
  • only 30 keys!!
  • super light 20g switches!!

i learned steno a while back and use it for most of my typing 'cause i find it fun. i haven’t got a page on it yet so in the meantime check out the open steno project if you wanna learn more about it

keycaps — MCC POM
  • the cylindrical shape is great for steno because it makes pressing two keys in the same column feel very nice
  • POM feels great
code editor — neovim

and occasionally vscode

you would think that stenography would pair better with the emacs keybindings and maybe that’s true. however i learned vim first and i’m not sure when i’ll next have the energy to explore other text editors. i spent most of that energy moving from vim → neovim (mostly worth it given i can understand my lua config now)

mask — zimi air ZM9541

trying to find a mask that works for me was a huge pain in the butt. partly because my face is shorter than average and i’ve got a low nose bridge. auras slipped off my chin and the vflex was too small and various earloops were simultaneously not tight enough and way too tight.

these fit my face great, no adjustments needed, passing an at-home fit test

notes:

  • they’re a frame + filter combo mask
    • the site is kinda confusing, so here’s what you do: models without an F at the end are 1 frame + 1 filter, models with an F are a pack of only filters
    • you can reuse frames but they’re a little flimsy so be careful
    • the frame makes the middle of the mask not touch your face!!!
  • i ordered them to the uk, which ended up being cheaper than buying from a uk-based reseller despite shipping. also more choices available
  • there’s a lot of choice and mods - colours: white, black, seasonal designs & designs from partners like rackmask - earloop or headloop - different shaped foam bits to stick onto the frame to make it fit differently - cut-out guides for the frame and the cloth seal
trolley — ikea raskog

i’m hawking the idea of trolley in general rather than this specific trolley. trolleys are great!

if you live within walking/public transportation distance of the shops, get a shopping trolley. they fit about 4 big shopping bags versus the 2 your arms can carry, plus it hurts a lot less to haul it back, and you don’t need to worry about the bag splitting on you. there’s ones with cute designs too

this IKEA one is for inside use. it’s really nice to have a thing which can store a laptop and a book and a current craft project that i move between the three places where i sit in the flat

toothpaste — strawberry

i discovered i was autistic a few years ago, and subsequently realised that i was perhaps putting up with way more sensory icks than i had to. behold, strawberry toothpaste, easily available in the kids section with the same amount of fluoride as adult toothpaste, and doesn’t make me associate waking up and going to bed with pain

rss reader — feedbin

it’s simple. it’s got an api. see getting through my rss backlog
